Welcome to African Queer and Creative, a Community Interest Company dedicated to empowering and uplifting queer Africans in the diaspora through the transformative power of creativity. Our mission is to foster a vibrant and supportive community that enables networking, project collaborations, educational and creative workshops, and strategic partnerships.
African Queer and Creative was born as a platform to empower queer Africans in the creative industries to connect, collaborate, and thrive. What sets us apart is our unique focus on the intersection of queerness and African creativity—a distinctive value proposition that distinguishes us from general networking platforms.
This focus addresses a specific and underserved need in the market, ensuring the enduring relevance of our initiative.
The timing of African Queer and Creative is opportune. Across many parts of Africa, there is a growing awareness and unacceptance of LGBTQ+ rights.
Though there has been progress in raising awareness of the existence of African LGBTQ+ rights and persons, this has not translated into sufficient support and opportunities for queer Africans in society on the African continent or outside of it.
We believe in the power of creativity to drive social change and economic empowerment. Our initiatives are designed to:
Community Building
We create spaces where queer Africans can connect, share experiences, and support one another. Our community-building efforts include:
Networking Events: Regular gatherings to foster connections and collaborations.
Project Collaborations: Opportunities to work together on creative and professional projects.
Educational and Creative Workshops
Our workshops are designed to empower individuals with the skills and knowledge they need to thrive:
Creative Workshops: Explore various creative fields and develop new skills.
Educational Workshops: Learn about business development, financial literacy, and more.
Strategic Partnerships
We collaborate with organisations and professionals to provide resources and opportunities for our community members:
Professional Growth: Access to mentorship, internships, and job opportunities.
Resource Sharing: Information and resources on immigration, asylum, and more.
Advocacy and Support
We address the unique challenges faced by queer African refugees, immigrants, and asylum seekers by providing:
Signposting and Resource Sharing: Connecting individuals to essential services and support networks.
Advocacy: Championing the rights and recognition of our community within broader societal and institutional frameworks.
